Astanga Yoga with Adam Keen

About Adam

Adam had been a student of yoga and maintained a daily practice and study for the past 20 yrs. He has been fortunate to study in depth with many of the most well know teachers as well as making extensive trips to Mysore, where he was instructed through the advanced series of asanas by Sharath Jois ,as well as being authorized by him to teach (level 2) and assisting him in his Shala.

Personally, he is a very honest and down to earth teacher, with a good sense of humor and an interest in all students regardless of level, or perceived ability. Instruction is clear and technical, yet everyone is also encouraged towards a dynamic, energetic and

Realizing at a young age, that true peace of mind had to be found through some kind of journey inside, Adams’ approach to yoga is fundamentally grounded in this perspective. A sense of lasting tranquility must be the greatest gift yoga could offer, hence each person is encouraged, on an individual basis, to find out what yoga means for them; how it feels to fully embody themselves within the asanas. Appropriate philosophy and breathing is also given due instruction, though the emphasis is ultimately on freedom and becoming one’s own self, free from the constraints of fear and dogma, self-doubt and judgement.

WORKSHOP DESCRIPTION

Astanga Yoga Workshop Dec 7, 8, 9 – 2017 – Al Waab Studio
Mysore 10, 11, 12, 13 – 5 – 6.30/7 pm – Asas Studios

Introduction to the Fundamental Techniques of Astanga. Thursday 6 pm – 7:30 pm
Guided Meditation: Thursday 7:30 pm – 8:30 pm
A half first series practice followed by an examination of the fundamental techniques of astanga and meditation and its relevance to the spiritual path.

Led First Series: Friday 7:30 am – 9:30 am

Jump through and back: Friday 11 – 12:30 am
We need to consider very basic techniques that we can practice throughout our routine, not just in the movement themselves to master what appears to be a complicated and impressive little trick. It actually comes very simply with a few tips and a bit of practice together…

8 limbs of yoga and relation to life: Friday 12:30 – 2 pm
Astanga means 8 limbs, hence there are 7 other branches of practice, other than asana, that it is useful to be aware of and that may be practiced as efficient methods to further smooth the journey through our lives. We go through these in clear and simple terms together, showing how there is more than just yoga positions available to consider if we have the interest to enquiry deeper.

Led First Series and Introductory Second Series poses: Saturday 7 am – 9 am

Backbends without fear: Saturday 12:30- 2 pm
Everyone has experienced some fear towards backbends at some time. This may be due to discomfort, or just the basic fact that we can’t see where we are going when we bend back. Sharing together our experience, and the practice of some isolated techniques outside backbending itself, we will start getting you to look forward to the end of the practice, rather than dreading it.

Patanjali’s Yoga Sutras and relevance to asana practice: Saturday 2- 3:30 pm
How we practice, the feeling-tone and intention, is crucial to receiving as much benefit as our yoga practice can offer. Patanjali, the Indian sage who authored this text over 1000 years ago, is still as relevant today as he was then, showing how one can still have drive and ambition to motivate our lives and indeed our progression in yoga, yet remain unstressed, free of ego, and unattached to the outcomes of our actions in this life
