An internationally recognized Yoga Alliance approved program now in its 10th year with close to 200 graduates teaching successfully world-wide.

Yama Yoga offers a teacher training program based on the traditions of Astanga, Vinyasa and Iyengar yoga to offer a well-rounded and in depth introduction to yoga as taught by the students and disciples of Sri T.Krishnamachariya, the grandfather of modern yoga. Teacher trainees will leave the Yama Yoga 200 hour program with the following skills and experiences:

 A well-rounded foundation in the principles of asana, pranayama, meditation, and yoga philosophy

 A basic understanding of anatomy

 Competency and understanding of the astanga and vinyasa methods and the skill to structure safe and enjoyable Astanga and/or vinyasa yoga class for a variety of levels.

 The ability to lead prenatal, yin and kids classes.

 The basis for a life-long study and practice of yoga

 A 200-hour Yoga Alliance certificate that is internationally recognized.

Course Details

Deciding to deepen your yoga practice and to train as a yoga teacher requires commitment and dedication.  Students should be prepared to make the practice and study of yoga a priority during the ten months of training. The program will provide 33 weeks of training.  It will run from the week of September 20th, 2017 to the beginning of June 2018. The terms will be 13, 12, and 8 week terms with break that correspond to school breaks between each one.

COURSE EXPECTATIONS

Workshops:

Workshops with internationally renowned teachers in the various disciples of yoga are a vital part of the program.  They complement the curriculum and connect trainees to the international yoga community. Final dates TBA but on average there is a full weekend workshop every 4 -6 weeks.

Practice Requirements:

In the spring the teacher trainees will develop a personalized practice which will require participation at two additional classes per week plus the development of a home practice.

Admittance:

Admittance is by application only. Applications are available on the website. An in-person interview with the program director is required and should be scheduled as soon as possible.

This is a highly sought after program. Admittance is competitive and should not be assumed.

Mentorship:

Yama Yoga is a community of dedicated yogis who support each other’s development. Trainees will be expected to practice at Yama Yoga under the mentorship of senior teachers until they have demonstrated competency.  Once graduated they will be mentored in their first year of teaching.

Wednesday Evening Classes at Asas Studio 6:30 – 7:45 pm Practical Class 8:00 – 9:30 pm Theory Class (3 ten-week units on Anatomy, Pedagogy and Philosophy.)
Friday Morning at Al Waab Studio 7:30 am – 9:30 am (The first semester focuses on developing your practice while the second semester is focused on the practical aspects of teaching.)
Saturday Morning at Al Waab Studios 7:30 am – 9:00 am – Astanga/Mysore based practice
Registration: QR 2000 (This fee is non-refundable and should be paid upon acceptance into the program.)
